The 17th International Istanbul Jazz Festival prepares to turn İstanbul into a city of jazz with over 50 concerts. This year, the International İstanbul Jazz Festival, which will spread into different venues all around the city, includes Archaeology Museum, Hagia Eirene Museum, İstanbul Modern, İstinyePark, Salon, Sepetçiler Quasr and The Marmara Esma Sultan along with Cemil Topuzlu Open Air Theatre.
This year Tünel Feast is added to the events such as Jazz Boat that spreads the jazz into the city. The joy of jazz will be carried into İstanbul streets with the Street Concerts, alongside the Tünel Feast which will take place on the first weekend of the festival, Saturday July 3, and the Jazz Boat which will leave on Sunday, July 4.
Sponsored by Garanti Bank for the 13th time, the programme of the 17th International İstanbul Jazz Festival was released at a press conference at Salon.
İstanbul Jazz Festival launches a brand new event this year and turns Tünel into a feast area! The Tünel Feast will be based where the heart of the city beats and will create a “festival within the festival” on the first weekend of the festival, night of Saturday July 3.
Organised with the co-sponsorship of Coca-Cola and with the collaboration of Beyoğlu Municipality the feast will host both free of charge and paid concerts, workshops, special exhibitions, and treats from dusk until late night.
At two main stages at Galata and Tünel, where Young Jazz artists will also perform, free of charge concerts will be given, transforming the whole area into a giant festival venue. Audiences will be able to switch venues and stages to see Larry Graham & Graham Central Station, The Panorama Jazz Band, Emir Ersoy Projecto Cubano, Maffy Falay Sextet, Jungle Boldie, Timuçin Şahin Quintet, and Rika Ogawa –as part of the Japan Year 2010 in Turkey celebrations– at Salon, Nardis Jazz Club, the garden of the Consulate of Netherlands, Tarık Zafer Tunaya Cultural Centre and Muammer Karaca Theatre in Tünel.
