Travel by rail

Last Update: 07 April 2010

Trains provide the best way to travel around Istanbul without being negatively affected by the traffic. For travel within the city, you can use suburban trains, the metro, the light rail, and the tramway.

Suburban trains
The Sirkeci - Halkalı line

You can travel from Sirkeci, near Eminönü, to Halkalı. You can either purchase a token for your journey from the booths at the station, or use your akbil. The price of tickets is 1,30 YTL.

The Haydarpasha - Gebze line
In order to travel to the suburbs on the Asian Side, one can use this train, which departs from Haydarpasha Station. The last destination of this line is Gebze, a village of Kocaeli. The departure times are coordinated with the arrival times of the ferries that travel to the European Side. The most common way of traveling between the European and Asian sides of Istanbul is to make a transfer from a train to a ferry. The price: 1,30 YTL.

Metros - tramways - cable cars
Metro, tramway and light-rail lines all service the central areas of Istanbul, where traffic tends to be the heaviest. Trains on all of these lines tend to run at frequent intervals, allowing you to travel to your destination without waiting or being caught up in traffic. If there is metro or tramway service in the direction that you are traveling, then by all means take advantage of it.

The Taksim - 4. Levent Metro
The metro line runs between Taksim and 4. Levent. It runs over a distance of 8 km and stops at 6 stations. Travel lasts for a total of 12 minutes between the two end stations, and trains run at intervals of 5 minutes

The metro runs from 6.15 a.m. to 12.30 a.m. on weekdays, from 6.15 a.m. to 1.00 a.m. on fridays and saturdays, and from 6.30 a.m. to 12.30 a.m. on sundays. The ticket price is 1,3 YTL; with an Akbil, the price is only 1,25 YTL.

The Kabataş - Zeytinburnu Tramway
The tramway from Kabataş to Zeytinburnu runs over a total distance of 14 km and makes twenty-four stops. The entire journey takes forty-two minutes.

The tramway runs from 6.00 a.m. and 12.00 a.m. every day, and costs 1,30 YTL. If you pay with an Akbil, the price is 1,25 YTL.

The Aksaray - Airport Metro
The metro line from Aksaray to Atatürk Airport runs a distance of 20 km. The trip lasts 31 minutes, and trains run at intervals of 7 minutes

The Aksaray-Airport metro runs every day from 6.00 a.m. to 12.40 a.m. and costs 1,30 YTL, or 1,25 YTL with an Akbil.

The Nostalgic Tramway
Although we certainly recommend that you walk down Istiklal Avenue, with its diverse shops, tempting shop windows, and teaming crowds of pedestrians, for those who prefer not to walk, there is an equally attractive alternative: The “Nostalgic Tramway”, which runs from Taksim Square to Tünel. You can travel from one end of Istiklal Avenue to the other on this nostalgic tramway. If you want to visit the Çiçek Arcade, Nevizade Street, or the Fish Bazaar, you should leave the tram at the Galatasaray stop.

The nostalgic tramway runs from 7.00 a.m. to 11.00 p.m., and costs 90 YKr.

The Kadıköy - Moda Tramway
This tramway line follows a route from Kadıköy Square, along a bus route to Bahariye Avenue and onward to Moda Avenue. After reaching Moda Avenue, it returns to Kadıköy.

There are 10 stations over the tramway’s 2.6 km route. The tramway runs once every 7 minutes from 7.00 a.m. to 8.00 p.m.; the trip lasts a total of 21 minutes. The price of tickets is 1,30 YTL or 1,25 YTL (Akbil).

The Maçka cable car
As a means of transportation, the Maçka cable car offers an enjoyable ride with lovely views. The cable car runs over between Maçka and Taşkışla. Unfortunately, this lovely voyage, only lasts three minutes. The cable car runs every day of the week between 08.00 a.m. and 08.00 p.m. and costs 1,30 YTL.

Golden Horn Cable Car
This cable car takes you from the shores of the Golden Horn in Eyüp to Piyerloti Cafe, the best spot in all of Istanbul from which to gaze at the Golden Horn. The distance between the two stations is six hundred and twenty five metres. The panoramic car itself can accommodate up to eight passengers at a time. The price of the cable car is 1,30 YTL, or 1,25 YTL with an Akbil.

The personal loans seem to be useful for people, which want to start their organization. In fact, this is very easy to get a credit loan.
