In September and October, Istanbul's art scene will belong to women, thanks to Filmmor’s film festival, exhibition and activities.
With movies, photographs and design ateliers, Istanbul’s women will reflect the history and cultural background of the city. The center of attention will be focused on their issues, including gender discrimination and Istanbul's difficult living conditions.
The Filmmor exhibition aims to promote women’s art and bring awareness to the problems they face in society.
The film festival will make it possible to come face-to-face with the "dream Istanbul" many Turkish women hope will one day become a reality. The women of Filmmor will break their silence and reveal that it is possible for people to walk on the street without feeling they belong to any specific sex; and to live without gender discrimination, which many face every day of their lives.
The women of Istanbul want to show how they live through their art. Focusing on the different areas of Istanbul, the women’s motto is, "We are on the streets of the city."
The photography exhibitions and movie programs will be open to public.
About Filmmor Women's Cooperative
The objectives of Filmmor Women’s Cooperative are to increase the visibility of women and their life experiences, and to increase their opportunities to share those experiences.
The cooperation also aims to increase the participation of women in cinema and media, and in this respect improve their opportunities to express themselves while increasing their power and productivity.
Filmmor hopes for a future without gender discrimination in cinema, or in any other aspects of life, when women and men have equal opportunities, and when violence and discrimination do not exist.
